HB1831 - the Abortion Restriction Act of 2008

This is how we roll in Missouri! And Robert Meyer is MY State Senator! I haven't found that his office is terribly committed to getting health care to those who need and deserve it. And as I see it, abortion is a health related issue which should not be restricted. With a population explosion and world food crisis, I could see mandatory abortions and sterilizations! This is just how far my own legislators go in the opposite direction of my beliefs. And also why they basically ignore me. They are all neo-con fascists.

HB1831 - the Abortion Restriction Act of 2008 - was approved last night by Senate Judiciary Committee. And its companion bill - SB1058 - is already on the Senate calendar. Now anti-choice Senators have two bites at the apple!

HB 1831 (Onder, R-Lake St. Louis) and SB1058 (Mayer, R-Dexter), would:

- Create the new crime of 'coercion of an abortion'
- Remove decision-making entirely from the woman seeking the procedure
- Criminalize physicians who perform abortions

These bills create an extremely broad definition of 'coercion' with grave consequences for women. For example, if a woman is in a physically or emotionally abusive situation, she is prohibited from seeking or obtaining an abortion because she is now the 'victim' of a crime. Even if the woman gives her free and fully informed consent to have one, the physician who performs the abortion would be guilty of a felony. The woman is now victimized twice... how outrageous is that?!

HB1831 and SB1058 violate a woman's right to weigh her own life circumstances and make a decision that is best for her and her family; in Missouri, politicians would now step in and make those decisions.

This blatant government intrusion into the doctor/patient relationship is just too extreme for Missouri and does nothing to protect the health and safety of women or prevent unintended pregnancy.
I have voiced my opposition to this form of legislation. But they don't represent me and actually wish I would hurry up and die. The feeling is mutual.

And the Fascist Machine rolls on unchecked.
