FYI: Disconnect between "Socialist" Parties

I received this informational message on one of my mailing lists which demonstrates the obvious infighting and back biting among parties which describe themselves as "Socialist" in the petit-bourgeois 'democratic' election in the U.S.

The profiles are now up on the PFP website for the four candidates seeking the PFP nomination. California is one of three states where Moore/Alexander are directly challenging Nader and McKinney for a nomination so I thought it might be of interest to comrades who are jointly supporting the Moore/Alexander and the McKinney and/or Nader/Gonzalez campaigns. The other campaign seeking the PFP nomination is Gloria La Riva/Eugene Puryear of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (a split from the Workers World Party).

You can read the profiles of all four candidates by clicking on their pictures at:
http://peaceandfreedom.org/

Apparently Nader has just recruited a large number of write-in candidates for the upcoming PFP Convention who will be added by Convention delegates if they win in the upcoming state-run primary in California. If Nader is not successful with this write-in effort, however, it has been reported that he and McKinney as non-socialists have very little support among members of the PFP who will make up the bulk of those attending the Convention.

The campaign is also challenging Nader for the nomination of the Independent Party of Delaware and both candidates will likely be attending its Convention.

We essentially already lost to Nader for Michigan since the ballot line of the defunct NLP was our only option for Michigan ballot option. While Nader was battling in the courts for Michigan ballot access, we already had Michigan ballot access through the NLP. This time Nader realized his oversight in 2004 and convinced the single individual who controls the Michigan NLP ballot line to nominate him instead of us, even though he could have certainly qualified in Michigan as an independent again. We will, however, have official write-in status in Michigan this year and the SP ticket will probably be the only presidential ticket in Michigan with such a status.

There is also a possibility of a challenge from McKinney for the United Citizens Party of South
Carolina nomination. The UCP nominated the SP ticket in 2004 and we are seeking it again in 2008. Assuming McKinney wins the GP nomination, she will already have ballot access in South Carolina, but its quite possible she may seek the backing of the UCP as well. Thus far the UCP has nominated Barack Obama, but according to Richard Winger of Ballot Access News, Obama is expected to not accept the nomination regardless of whether he wins the Democratic nomination.

While supporting more than one left candidate in the general election doesn't create much contradiction since none of them will win any way, I suppose it does create an odd situation when undemocratic ballot access laws force these candidates to compete directly against each other for primaries and friendly party nominations.

I think it is disheartening (to put it mildly) that the American 'Left' behaves exactly like the Republicrats and Democlicans in their bizarre attempts to "cut each other off at the knees" when unity and solidarity are obviously the only way that anyone will ever begin to change the planet's course toward suicide by capitalism.

I found the message informative and thought I'd pass it along here.

"Internal" coup d'etat under preparation in Venezuela

Keep your eye on the ball. How many wars can we possibly fight at one time? We are on our way to WWIII before the chimp leaves office! Someone arrest the bastard and stop this insanity NOW!

BREAKING
NEWS: "Internal" coup d'etat under preparation in Venezuela to remove
President Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias from office "within the next days"

Persistent 'chatter' monitored by intelligence services claim that an "internal" coup d'etat is under preparation in Venezuela seeking to remove President Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias from office "within the next days" or by the end of June at the very latest.

Confidential and thoroughly credible sources say that what is initially projected as a 'bloodless' coup may inded turn extremely nasty with US mercenaries infiltrated cross-border from Colombia who are said to be aligned with traitors inside Chavez Frias' own administration.

How, when and where the coup will take place remains a closely guarded secret and sources within the loyal security services in Venezuela are hoping that a greater public awareness of the plot will help to defuse a situation where the blue touch-paper has already been ignited aimed at the physical removal of the President.

It is understood that in the event of a successful coup, vice president Ramon Carrizales would immediately become the titular head of government but it is not yet known who or how many of the current government line-up would be axed or otherwise eliminated.

Security tactitians say the coup is seen as "necessary" by elements within the Chavez administration to defuse the threat of military invasion of all or part of Venezuela by United States forces in their relentless quest to secure oil supplies to North America.

Venezuela's economic cabinet has been in a state of alert over the last couple of weeks following credible claims that separationists are prepared to surrender to the United States allowing major US oil corporations access to Venezuelan crude reserves in Lake Maracaibo and elsewhere in western Venezuela.

War, Inc. : Outsourced Warfare Represents a "Radical, Dangerous, Disgusting Ideology"

This article leaves little to say.

John Cusack: Outsourced Warfare Represents a "Radical, Dangerous, Disgusting Ideology"

Note: A trailer for War, Inc. can be viewed in the video window here.

John Cusack's new film, War, Inc., is set in a fictionalized Iraq. It's a funny film. It might have been tough to watch if it weren't, given the level of destruction that five years of occupation have wrought on the real country.

Cusack, along with co-writers Mark Leyner and Jeremy Pikser, offer up a dystopian vision of the future of privatized warfare set in "Turaqistan," a presumably oil-rich country that, if it really existed, would surely be somewhere that most Americans couldn't find on a map.

The film's humor rests on very real and demonstrably disastrous trends in neoconservative foreign policy of recent years -- a lethal war of choice and profit, the dismantling of states and plundering of their resources, a profound cultural insensitivity, lack of accountability and reckless disregard for easily-predicted consequences -- which are then pushed to the absurd.

In Iraq, journalists are embedded with troops and tour Potemkin villages to demonstrate progress; in Turaqistan, they're given virtual-reality tours of combat without leaving the cozy confines of "Emerald City," War, Inc.'s version of Baghdad's Green Zone. In Iraq, contractors like Halliburton have squeezed billions out of the treasury for substandard work that has left the country's infrastructure decimated; Turaqistan is wholly-managed by the Halliburton-esque Tamerlane corporation, and the tanks that patrol the country's burned-out streets are covered with NASCAR-style logos for everything from Popeye's Chicken to Golden Palace online gambling.

Fans of the underground classic Grosse Pointe Blank will find much that is familiar. Cusack plays a conflicted killer -- this time a lethal assassin -- an extreme kind of corporate fixer -- whom Tamarlane dispatches to far-flung locales whenever someone of influence threatens the company's bottom line. The film has the same kind of sardonic and referential humor, and employs the same over-the-top ultra-violence pushed to comic extremes. Joan Cusack, in a role reminiscent of the one she played in Grosse Pointe Blank, again steals the show with her few minutes of screen time.

With sharp writing and strong performances by Marisa Tomei, Hilary Duff and Ben Kingsley, War, Inc. is provocative and satisfying. But it may have failed in one notable regard. Turaqistan, for all its insanity, is not all that much crazier than the reality of post-invasion Iraq; a week after the film arrived at AlterNet's office, and with mortars raining down in Baghdad's heavily-fortified Green Zone, a Los Angeles-based company announced that it's planning to build a Disney-like skateboard- and theme-park in Baghdad. Never mind that most Iraqi kids have never seen a skateboard -- a spokesperson for the company promised that a shipment of free boards would arrive in Iraq before the park's opening.

AlterNet caught up with John Cusack recently to discuss the inspirations for his film.

Adds a little humor to a tragic situation, eh?

Modern Genocide In North America: "Unrepentant"

When one is made aware of this kind of information, the first reaction is, "This can't possibly be happening". Denial is the first step in the grieving process. It is normal. But we have to move on through the grieving process, at least get past the denial. For it is true. As ugly and horrific as it truly is, it is true. And the lives that have been destroyed by this kind of tragic event need answers for closure, so they can move on through the grieving process and live.

The Epoch Times | Documentary Exposes Ugly Secret of Colonialism in Canada
A hard-hitting documentary that made its debut at the Gabriola Island Film Festival last weekend dwells on a theme that would surprise and shock most Canadians: Canada's genocide.

Even the words sound strange. Who knew that a genocide lurked within Canada's relatively civilized history?

According to Kevin Annett, co-writer and producer of Unrepentant: Kevin Annett and Canada's Genocide , the time has come for Canadians to learn the truth about what really happened to the aboriginal people from the start of colonialism until today.

It's not a pretty story. Unrepentant documents the "deliberate and systematic extermination" of non-Christian indigenous people within the Indian residential school system by the Catholic, United, Presbyterian and Anglican churches, in collusion with the federal government.

The film, which made its American debut last November at the New York Independent Film and Video Festival where it won Best Director of an International Documentary, is based on Annett's groundbreaking book, "Hidden From History: The Canadian Holocaust." Unrepentant will also be screened at various film festivals around the world.

"We want to generate international pressure on Canada and the churches to start to have full disclosure about what went on so that there can be some healing; real healing can only happen when there's been that kind of complete disclosure," Annett told The Epoch Times from his home in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.

A while back, I posted an article on the Native American siege taking place in Tyendinaga, in support of Shawn Brant. I railed on "Ethnic Cleansing" and "genocide", but I really was unaware of exactly how correct my description was.

Today, a comment was left on that article that led me to Hidden From History.org. There is some VERY disturbing information there that THE WHOLE WORLD needs badly to be aware of. And we all know that the main stream media will not tell the story. So, it is left to us.

On the site you can see the trailer to the movie (2:36), "Unrepentant", or you can see the movie in its entirety. (1:48:00)

This tragedy has been made possible by the institutions that we all hold most dearly: Our Government and The Church. I know that I bash Christianity a lot here. In fact, that's what I so the most! But all finger pointing aside, if we do not become aware of past 'mistakes' (if I can be pardoned for understating the matter so grossly), we are doomed to repeat them again... and again, and again. And this simply has to stop... everywhere. Now.

It takes quite a bit to make me cry...

Folks, this did it.

Visit this site. Educate yourself and everyone you know. Send this out far and wide. Support these people in their search for answers... and for closure. Today. Now. And for ever. For all of us. Please...

Soldier's desecration of Koran

Soldier's desecration of Koran sparks swift response - The Boston Globe
BAGHDAD - US commanders moved swiftly to avert a crisis after a soldier deployed in Baghdad was found to have used a copy of the Koran for target practice.
more stories like this

The incident had the potential to inflame Muslim opinion against the US military and compromise the delicate alliance it has been forging with Sunni Arab communities against religious extremists.

My mother asked me the other day why so many of the personnel being deployed overseas to war zones were from the south. It struck me between the eyes because I really hadn't noted any kind of "southern soldier" trend. And being left with no real response (as is so rarely the case), I responded, "I guess the south is the only place with people stupid enough or poor enough to volunteer to commit murder in the name of oil."

Trite, I know. And I suppose you wonder why I mention it here. I'll get to that in a minute.

But I was looking at a story today about upcoming troop rotations. The numbers between north/south troops filling the billets are about even. (If you want to count Hawaii a southern state ;-). So, my mothers' argument was not really valid (she will be... happy? to know).

The reason I bring it up is because when I read this story about the desecration of the Holy Koran by soldiers, in my mind, I immediately thought, "Redneck Bigots". Now, don't get me wrong! I know that they are everywhere. They are just more visible in the south. Maybe it's the weather or something, I don't know.

I was minding my own business in one of our countries fine penal colonies one day when I saw a couple of... 'jail house Christians' tearing a book apart and laughing and having a real good time. I was curious what they were destroying, since I can read, and literature is in short supply in our cross bar hotels. So, I walked up and took a look.

It was a 'New World Translation' of the Holy Bible. This struck me as odd as hell! So, I asked them why they were destroying a bible. They said, with some glee I might add, "It is not an authorized King James Bible and the bible says that no one shall add to or take away from...", yada, yada, yada.

I stood there and listened to their 'sermon on the hill' (the hill the prison was on) and waited patiently for them to finish. I then asked them, "Well, don't you think that someone might think it is a holy book, even if you don't?" "yeah, I guess...". "Well, how would you feel about it if a Wiccan, or a Muslim, or a Native American were tearing up a 'King James Version'?"

"We never thought about it that way." They were later very sorry for their actions and said so.

The point is that stupid people do stupid stuff for stupid reasons.

And the stupidest reason that I ever heard is "that's what we learned in church".

We are suppose to be there, in someone else's country, for their benefit and protection, if we are to believe the main line arguments which then lead to "fighting terrorism and keep US safe".

I wish that the few Uhmericuns that are left that can read would read the Holy Koran. I have. The Saudi Embassy mailed me a VERY nice one for the asking!

They aren't that different from us. And like US, they have a radical fundamentalist sect that hates everyone without discrimination.

Surviving Christianity is something that we will all likely have to face... at some point. I suggest that we eek some of those steel trap minds open (on both sides of the planet) and trickle a little humility and education in there. It's almost too late!

Navy Warplane crossed Venezuelan airspace

US official: Navy plane may have crossed Venezuelan airspace
WASHINGTON (AP) - A U.S. Navy plane apparently accidentally crossed into Venezuela's airspace Saturday night, triggering protests from that country, according to a U.S. defense official familiar with the report.

The S-3 Viking aircraft, based in Curacao, was on a training mission in international airspace near Los Roques Island, Venezuela, and experienced "intermittent navigational problems," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

The aircraft is used for counter-narcotics missions. Navy crew on the S-3 reported they had a brief radio conversation with air traffic control personnel in Maiquetia, and believed that they had mistakenly flown into Venezuelan airspace, the official said.

FAS Military Analysis Network describes the "training mission" plane as follows:

S-3B Aircraft are tasked by the Carrier Battle Group Commanders to provide Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASUW), surface surveillance and intelligence collection, electronic warfare, mine warfare, coordinated search and rescue, and fleet support missions, including air wing tanking.

The S-3B Aircraft is manned and operated by an aircrew of four. The aircrew consists of a pilot, Copilot Tactical Coordinator (COTAC), acoustic Sensor Station Operator (SENSO), and Tactical Coordinator (TACCO). The S-3B Aircraft carries surface and subsurface search equipment with integrated target acquisition and sensor coordinating systems which can collect, process, interpret, and store ASW and ASUW sensor data. It has a direct attack capability with a variety of armament.

The S-3B's high speed computer system processes information generated by the acoustic and non-acoustic target sensor systems. This includes a new Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) and ESM systems suites. To destroy targets, the S-3B Viking employs an impressive array of airborne weaponry. This provides the fleet with a very effective airborne capability to combat the significant threat presented by modern combatants and submarines. Additionally, all S-3B aircraft are capable of carrying an inflight refueling "buddy" store. This allows the transfer of fuel from the Viking aircraft to other Naval strike aircraft, thus extending their combat radius.

The S-3B Aircraft is a modified S-3A Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) aircraft, with increased ASW and new Anti-Surface Warfare capabilities through improvements to various mission avionics and armament systems. It has increased capabilities through improvements to the general purpose digital computer, acoustic data processor, radar, sonobuoy receiver, sonobuoy reference system, and electronic support measures, and includes the installation of an electronic countermeasures dispensing system and the Harpoon Missile System. It also encompasses provisions for the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System. The Communications Control Group [CCG] provides improved communication capability and greatly improved reliability over the Switching Logic Unit and Intercommunication System used in the S-3A. The Global Positioning System [GPS] modification replaces the Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) portion of the S-3B Aircraft TACAN Inertial Navigation System once TACAN is phased out. This new navigation system will also comply with the requirement for the S-3B Aircraft to have Federal Aviation Administration certifiable GPS Radio Navigation capability. The GPS will provide increased operational capability and mission effectiveness by providing precise navigation position information during all phases of aircraft operations. The AN/USH-42 Mission Recorder Reproducer Set [MR/RS] replaces the obsolete and unsupportable RO457 Video Signal Recorder. It allows for multi-channel recording of S-3B Aircraft Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar, Forward Looking Infrared, and mission avionics data. The capability for in-flight video recording, in-flight and post-flight playback, analysis, and duplication are also new features.
So this begs the question, what exactly were they training for? A heavily armed, high tech, spy plane near the region of Venezuela that Georgie's buddies in Columbia are trying to get to cede from Venezuela for the capitalist profit to be harvested there. And there is also a presidential compound where they flew over.

We already know that our own UAV did the bombing of the FARC camp in Ecuador for the Columbian government. Where in spite of the massive bombing, those "incriminating" laptops survived only to be determined that the data had been accessed and altered AFTER all the "rebel terrorists" there were dead.

Uhm-hmm. Yeah, right. Keep your eyes on the shell with the ball under it. The excuses are getting thin.

Government attempting to restrict use of National Mall

Save the National Mall:

Government attempting to restrict use of National Mall. Take action right now to defend free speech rights!

We are writing to you with an urgent appeal to take action now. Unless people around the country take action, the Bush Administration' s Interior Department will be able to quietly work behind the scenes to deliver a knockout punch to free speech rights. By the time Bush leaves office on January 20, 2009, the National Mall might be off limits. The National Park Service (NPS) has launched a new initiative, similar to that launched to exclude protests from New York City's Great Lawn. It will be used to further restrict or ban proteston the Mall from current levels. This is a component of a nationwide campaign of corporate-sponsored organizations working in partnership with government entities that claim that protests, rallies and demonstrations harm grass or "green space" or "natural resources" and must therefore be restricted or banned or shunted off to designated protest pits.

A lawsuit filed by the Partnership for Civil Justice on behalf of the National Council of Arab Americans and the ANSWER Coalition successfully overturned regulations in New York City that were used to prevent mass assembly protest in the Great Lawn of Central Park during the Republican National Convention. Those planning to reduce access to the National Mall have stated that they saw New York

The NPS has set up a "public-private" partnership that allows business interests and real estate developers -- in coordination with the government -- to determine the future of the Mall. The NPS has announced proposals that include creating a designated protest zone; barring any structures, like rally stages, that might temporarily block an unobstructed view from the Washington Monument to the Capitol; and making the Mall completely off-limits for undetermined periods so that the grass can rest.

Right now, you can write to the National Park Service to demand no restrictions on the right of the people to assemble. We have set up an easy-to-use mechanism that will allow your message to be sent directly to the NPS and the Secretary of the Interior. Please tell a friend about this important fight for free speech.

The government is hoping to push through their plans as quietly and with as little resistance as possible to claim that there is "consent" by the public to new restrictions. The time to act is now.

The National Mall has been associated for decades as the site for mass assembly protest and gatherings. On January 18, 2003, the ANSWER Coalition organized a demonstration of 500,000 prior to the invasion of Iraq. The Nation of Islam led the Million Man March in 1995 on the Mall. The National Organization for Women sponsored the March for Women's Lives bringing more than a million people to the Mall in 2004. A huge gathering for immigrant rights took place on the Mall in 2006 as part of a nation-wide outpouring. From the Bonus Marchers of the early 1930s, to Dr. King's Poor People's March of 1968, and the anti-war Moratorium of 1969, the Mall is the historic anchor for the exercise of free speech rights in the United States. The people of the United States will not relinquish this cherished right.

Click this link to send your letter:

I personally have attended demonstration events on the Capitol Mall. Never have I experienced more peaceful, brotherly, caring, and moving gatherings anywhere. I feel it would be a loss to us all to loose this form of freedom of speech and expression.

But then, that is just me. Do YOU care?

Roman Catholic Church has the inalienable right and duty to convert any person to Christianity

Konvert 'em or Kill 'em. If there was any doubt about it, this should settle the question.

Pope speaks of duty to convert others to the faith
The Roman Catholic Church has the inalienable right and duty to convert any person to Christianity, Pope Benedict XVI said Saturday.

Evangelism is a central mission of the Church, the pope told a Vatican body that encourages Catholic missionary activity.

The appeal for the conversion of "all nations," attributed to Jesus Christ in the Gospels, remains "an obligatory mandate for the entire Church and for every believer in Christ," the pontiff said.

"This apostolic commitment is both a duty and an inalienable right, the very expression of religious freedom (?) with its moral, social and political dimensions," he said.

Like his predecessors, Pope Benedict is keen to promote missionary zeal among Catholics, most of whom live in a world of religious pluralism and other proselytizing faiths such as Islam.

The pope's message was also addressed to the faithful in countries where religious activity is strictly controlled by the state or even relegated to the private realm.

In December, the Vatican published a doctrinal note reaffirming the mission of all the faithful to seek to convert non-Catholics including members of other Christian denominations, while avoiding placing undue pressure on them. (Dude obviously doesn't read the paper!)

The note highlighted the need for respect and a spirit of cooperation in dialogue with other Christians, and rejected past accusations of proselytising that have been levelled against it by the Russian Orthodox Church. (And what the fu(< is this exhortation about?)

Relations between the Orthodox Church and the Holy See have been thorny, with the Moscow Patriarchate accusing the Vatican of proselytising in traditionally Orthodox lands following the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Tensions were further aggravated in 2002, after the Vatican established four permanent dioceses in Russia.

If one cannot see the mixed messages in this ideology, one is either being intentionally obtuse or is a rock.

Like his predecessors, Pope Benedict is keen to promote missionary zeal among Catholics, most of whom live in a world of religious pluralism and other proselytising faiths such as Islam.

In this statement alone, it is clear that the suggestion is made that it is ok for Catholics to proselytize, while the act is seditious and evil when others do it. I would submit that the fact someone does something that you find offensive or subversive does not make it acceptable for one to participate in the same activity.

But then, Christianity is wrought with inconsistencies and contradictions.

My advice is to READ the Bible for oneself. Read the Koran. Read any and every "Holy Book" that you can get your hands on! But whatever you do, DO NOT let anyone else tell you how to interpret what you have read. It is fine to listen to differing perspectives. But we know instinctively what is true and right, if we are honest with ourselves and diligent in our search.

I say again, intolerance of intolerance is still intolerance.

Thousands killed by US's Korean ally

It took 58 years, but the US National Archives just released several photos of some atrocities taken by a enabling witness, a US Army Major. Check them out at
http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/US-Army-South-Korea-Daejeon...

AP IMPACT: Thousands killed by US's Korean ally
By CHARLES J. HANLEY and JAE-SOON CHANG, Associated Press Writers
May 18, 2008

DAEJEON, South Korea - Grave by mass grave, South Korea is unearthing the skeletons and buried truths of a cold-blooded slaughter from early in the Korean War, when this nation's U.S.-backed regime killed untold thousands of leftists and hapless peasants in a summer of terror in 1950.

With U.S. military officers sometimes present, and as North Korean invaders pushed down the peninsula, the southern army and police emptied South Korean prisons, lined up detainees and shot them in the head, dumping the bodies into hastily dug trenches. Others were thrown into abandoned mines or into the sea. Women and children were among those killed. Many victims never faced charges or trial.

The mass executions - intended to keep possible southern leftists from reinforcing the northerners - were carried out over mere weeks and were largely hidden from history for a half-century. They were "the most tragic and brutal chapter of the Korean War," said historian Kim Dong-choon, a member of a 2-year-old government commission investigating the killings.

Hundreds of sets of remains have been uncovered so far, but researchers say they are only a tiny fraction of the deaths. The commission estimates at least 100,000 people were executed, in a South Korean population of 20 million.

That estimate is based on projections from local surveys and is "very conservative," said Kim. The true toll may be twice that or more, he told The Associated Press.

In addition, thousands of South Koreans who allegedly collaborated with the communist occupation were slain by southern forces later in 1950, and the invaders staged their own executions of rightists.

Through the postwar decades of South Korean right-wing dictatorships, victims' fearful families kept silent about that blood-soaked summer. American military reports of the South Korean slaughter were stamped "secret" and filed away in Washington. Communist accounts were dismissed as lies.

Only since the 1990s, and South Korea's democratization, has the truth begun to seep out.

In 2002, a typhoon's fury uncovered one mass grave. Another was found by a television news team that broke into a sealed mine. Further corroboration comes from a trickle of declassified U.S. military documents, including U.S. Army photographs of a mass killing outside this central South Korean city.

Now Kim's Truth and Reconciliation Commission has added government authority to the work of scattered researchers, family members and journalists trying to peel away the long-running cover-up. The commissioners have the help of a handful of remorseful old men.

"Even now, I feel guilty that I pulled the trigger," said Lee Joon-young, 83, one of the executioners in a secluded valley near Daejeon in early July 1950.

The retired prison guard told the AP he knew that many of those shot and buried en masse were ordinary convicts or illiterate peasants wrongly ensnared in roundups of supposed communist sympathizers. They didn't deserve to die, he said. They "knew nothing about communism."

The 17 investigators of the commission's subcommittee on "mass civilian sacrifice," led by Kim, have been dealing with petitions from more than 7,000 South Koreans, involving some 1,200 alleged incidents - not just mass planned executions, but also 215 cases in which the U.S. military is accused of the indiscriminate killing of South Korean civilians in 1950-51, usually in air attacks.

The commission last year excavated sites at four of an estimated 150 mass graves around the country, recovering remains of more than 400 people. Working deliberately, matching documents to eyewitness and survivor testimony, it has officially confirmed two large-scale executions - at a warehouse in the central South Korean county of Cheongwon, and at Ulsan on the southeast coast.

In January, then-President Roh Moo-hyun, under whose liberal leadership the commission was established, formally apologized for the more than 870 deaths confirmed at Ulsan, calling them "illegal acts the then-state authority committed."

The commission, with no power to compel testimony or prosecute, faces daunting tasks both in verifying events and identifying victims, and in tracing a chain of responsibility. Under Roh's conservative successor, Lee Myung-bak, whose party is seen as democratic heir to the old autocratic right wing, the commission may find less budgetary and political support.

The roots of the summer 1950 bloodbath lie in the U.S.-Soviet division of Japan's former Korea colony in 1945, which precipitated north-south turmoil and eventual war.

In the late 1940s, President Syngman Rhee's U.S.-installed rightist regime crushed leftist political activity in South Korea, including a guerrilla uprising inspired by the communists ruling the north. By 1950, southern jails were packed with up to 30,000 political prisoners.

The southern government, meanwhile, also created the National Guidance League, a "re-education" organization for recanting leftists and others suspected of communist leanings. Historians say officials met membership quotas by pressuring peasants into signing up with promises of rice rations or other benefits. By 1950, more than 300,000 people were on the league's rolls, organizers said.

North Korean invaders seized Seoul, the southern capital, in late June 1950 and freed thousands of prisoners, who rallied to the northern cause. Southern authorities, in full retreat with their U.S. military advisers, ordered National Guidance League members in areas they controlled to report to the police, who detained them. Soon after, commission researchers say, the organized mass executions of people regarded as potential collaborators began - "bad security risks," as a police official described the detainees at the time.

The declassified record of U.S. documents shows an ambivalent American attitude toward the killings. American diplomats that summer urged restraint on southern officials - to no obvious effect - but a State Department cable that fall said overall commander Gen. Douglas MacArthur viewed the executions as a Korean "internal matter," even though he controlled South Korea's military.

Ninety miles south of Seoul, here in the narrow, peaceful valley of Sannae, truckloads of prisoners were brought in from Daejeon Prison and elsewhere day after day in July 1950, as the North Koreans bore down on the city.

The American photos, taken by an Army major and kept classified for a half-century, show the macabre sequence of events.

White-clad detainees - bent, submissive, with hands bound - were thrown down prone, jammed side by side, on the edge of a long trench. South Korean military and national policemen then stepped up behind, pointed their rifles at the backs of their heads and fired. The bodies were tipped into the trench.

Trembling policemen - "they hadn't shot anyone before" - were sometimes off-target, leaving men wounded but alive, Lee said. He and others were ordered to check for wounded and finish them off.

Evidence indicates South Korean executioners killed between 3,000 and 7,000 here, said commissioner Kim. A half-dozen trenches, each up to 150 yards long and full of bodies, extended over an area almost a mile long, said Kim Chong-hyun, 70, chairman of a group of bereaved families campaigning for disclosure and compensation for the Daejeon killings. His father, accused but never convicted of militant leftist activity, was one victim.

Another was Yeo Tae-ku's father, whose wife and mother searched for him afterward.

"Bodies were just piled upon each other," said Yeo, 59, remembering his mother's description. "Arms would come off when they turned them over." The desperate women never found him, and the mass graves were quickly covered over, as were others in isolated spots up and down this mountainous peninsula, to be officially "forgotten."

When British communist journalist Alan Winnington entered Daejeon that summer with North Korean troops and visited the site, writing of "waxy dead hands and feet (that) stick through the soil," his reports in the Daily Worker were denounced as "fabrication" by the U.S. Embassy in London. American military accounts focused instead on North Korean reprisal killings that followed in Daejeon.

But CIA and U.S. military intelligence documents circulating even before the Winnington report, classified "secret" and since declassified, told of the executions by the South Koreans. Lt. Col. Bob Edwards, U.S. Embassy military attache in South Korea, wrote in conveying the Daejeon photos to Army intelligence in Washington that he believed nationwide "thousands of political prisoners were executed within (a) few weeks" by the South Koreans.

Another glimpse of the carnage appeared in an unofficial U.S. source, an obscure memoir self-published in 1981 by the late Donald Nichols, a U.S. Air Force intelligence officer, who told of witnessing "the unforgettable massacre of approximately 1,800 at Suwon," 20 miles south of Seoul.

Such reports lend credibility to a captured North Korean document from Aug. 2, 1950, eventually declassified by Washington, which spoke of mass executions in 12 South Korean cities, including 1,000 killed in Suwon and 4,000 in Daejeon.

That early, incomplete North Korean report couldn't include those executed in territory still held by the southerners. Up to 10,000 were killed in the city of Busan alone, a South Korean lawmaker, Park Chan-hyun, estimated in 1960.

His investigation came during a 12-month democratic interlude between the overthrow of Rhee and a government takeover by Maj. Gen. Park Chung-hee's authoritarian military, which quickly arrested many then probing for the hidden story of 1950.

Kim said his projection of at least 100,000 dead is based in part on extrapolating from a survey by non-governmental organizations in one province, Busan's South Gyeongsang, which estimated 25,000 killed there. And initial evidence suggests most of the National Guidance League's 300,000 members were killed, he said.

Commission investigators agree with the late Lt. Col. Edwards' note to Washington in 1950, that "orders for execution undoubtedly came from the top," that is, President Rhee, who died in 1965.

But any documentary proof of that may have been destroyed, just as the facts of the mass killings themselves were buried. In 1953, after the war ended in stalemate, after the deaths of at least 2 million people, half or more of them civilians, a U.S. Army war crimes report attributed all summary executions here in Daejeon to the "murderous barbarism" of North Koreans.

Such myths survived a half-century, in part because those who knew the truth were cowed into silence.

"My mother destroyed all pictures of my father, for fear the family would get an image as leftists," said Koh Chung-ryol, 57, who is convinced her 29-year-old father was innocent of wrongdoing when picked up in a broad police sweep here, to die in Sannae valley.

"My mother tried hard to get rid of anything about her husband," she said. "She suffered unspeakable pain."

Even educated South Koreans remained ignorant of their country's past. As a young researcher in the late 1980s, Yonsei University's Park Myung-lim, today a leading Korean War historian, was deeply shaken as he sought out confidential accounts of those days from ordinary Koreans.

"I cried," he said. "I felt, 'Oh, my goodness. Oh, Jesus. This was my country? It was true?'"

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission can recommend but not award compensation for lost and ruined lives, nor can it bring surviving perpetrators to justice. "Our investigative power is so meager," commission President Ahn Byung-ook told the AP.

His immediate concern is resources. "The current government isn't friendly toward us, and so we're concerned that the budget may be cut next year," he said.

South Korean conservatives complain the "truth" campaign will only reopen old wounds from a time when, even at the village level, leftists and rightists carried out bloody reprisals against each other.

The life of the commission - with a staff of 240 and annual budget of $19 million - is guaranteed by law until at least 2010, when it will issue a final, comprehensive report.

Later this spring and summer its teams will resume digging at mass grave sites. Thus far, it has verified 16 incidents of 1950-51 - not just large-scale detainee killings, but also such events as a South Korean battalion's cold-blooded killing of 187 men, women and children at Kochang village, supposed sympathizers with leftist guerrillas.

By exposing the truth of such episodes, "we hope to heal the trauma and pain of the bereaved families," the commission says. It also wants to educate people, "not just in Korea, but throughout the international community," to the reality of that long-ago conflict, to "prevent such a tragic war from reoccurring in the future."

Open Letter to Black America in Support of Cynthia McKinney

The following is an exchange that I participated in on the Yahoo Group, Socialism. As the content speaks for itself, I won't comment on it here. I merely am passing it along for the edification of all. And as I continue to evolve, for better or worse.

I don't believe in maintaining illusions in the bourgeois
political system myself; but if people insist on voting in
the 2008 U.S. presidential elections -- Cynthia McKinney is
100% the people's candidate.

AN OPEN LETTER RE CYNTHIA MCKINNEY
TO OUR POLITICALLY CONSCIOUS
SISTERS AND BROTHERS OF BLACK AMERICA

For far too long Black America has been at the mercy of political pimps and usurpers, particularly of the Democratic Party. It is now the year 2008, and we in Black America, in conjunction with our Brown, Red, Yellow, and White sisters and brothers have a genuine and serious choice in order to build a true people's movement for real systemic change through the "Power to the People" campaign inspired by former U.S. Congresswoman Sister Cynthia McKinney.

Cynthia Mckinney has demonstrated that she wants, and is fighting for, real, systemic change; which is the only change that will address the health care, employment, judicial, and environmental needs of all people.

STEP UP TO THE PLATE NOW

Sister Cynthia is not a corporately sponsored clone like John McCain, Barack, or Hillary Clinton. She is The Real People's Candidate. Cynthia knows that her campaign is about building the opportunity for a different America; an America that supports and believes in itself and the peoples of the world in a very real sense.

For Sister Cynthia's campaign to be able to lay the serious organizational foundation that is sorely needed by us all takes money - -- your money. The nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars that allow this beautiful and powerful sister to go around this nation with her/OUR message -- that we do not have to be, and refuse to be, hostages to what Brother Malcolm X correctly referred to as the "foxes and the wolves" of the Democratic and Republican Parties [i.e. the Republicrats] .

Every bit of physical and mental energy as well as every single cent from all of us is needed in this struggle. Cynthia, unlike the
candidates of the Democratic and Republican Parties is NOT corporately backed. This means that WE THE PEOPLE must step up to the plate and support her campaign and in so doing -- support ourselves!

Sister Cynthia McKinney is the ONLY one who seriously and fundamentally addresses our issues -- the concerns of Black America:
self-determination, reparations, judicial equality, police brutality, COINTELPRO, political prisoners, employment, decent housing, environmental justice, educational parity, and the absolute end to
unjust U.S. wars at home and abroad.

Sister Cynthia McKinney must be Supported NOW! At stake is literally EVERYTHING. Time to give our dollars to Cynthia's 'Power To The People' Campaign; for it is we the people's -- OUR CAMPAIGN! Do it now my brothers and sisters. Do it Now!

Sister Cynthia McKinney speaks truth to power! She is one of US. She does not pretend that the legacy of slavery is in the past. She makes it clear that jobs, justice, and equality are more important than ever before. She is bold about the fact that Black Liberation is a very important and serious ongoing struggle in the United States of America.

By supporting Cynthia, we support ourselves and our own humanity. We must do this and we must urge our sisters and brother to send every dollar, dime, nickel, and penny to support ourselves -- to support the Cynthia McKinney campaign for President. Remember that "the journey of thousand miles begins with the first step"!

ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

As I think I have previously noted on this blog that I would vote Socialist in the coming election, I had some questions about this article for its poster, grok. I asked him in a private email which upon its response, I felt it should go to the group. As I feel it is important to post here.

I apologize to the group for speaking 'off list' in the following exchange. In spite of my self-acknowledged ignorance on the leftist movements in the world, and my desire to keep said ignorance as private as possible, this exchange is truly enlightening. I can't really express my gratitude for the lessons learned here in any other way than to post it to the group.

I appreciate grok's willingness to keep my questions private. But there is some good information here. And I can swallow my 'pride' enough to share it for the value of its lessons to all.

I am hopefully on the "learning curve" of which grok speaks below. And I have learned from this exchange that some of my 'gut' feelings are leading me in the 'left' direction :-).

So, without further adieu, my lesson on Marxist Thought and humility for the day...

As the smoke cleared, Alan Sammet heartlandheretic@yahoo.com mounted the barricade and roared out:

grok,
I hope that you don't mind the 'off list' message.

Not at all. The only thing I don't really like about private messaging on public posts is that others don't know it's going on. And what isn't seen isn't thought about, etc. This I know for a fact. And so consciousness- raising and/or organizing isn't taking place.

But I would like your opinion about this question:

Do you not feel that the 'Brian Moore-Stewart Alexander' ticket of the Socialist Party USA is a workable option to the effort to move the nation to the left?

AFAIC the Socialist Party USA is a reformist, anti-leninist outfit, much like any social-democrat undertaking in the world -- created essentially to steer workers away from revolutionary class-consciousness and into reformist bourgeois electoralism.

Having said that, I don't believe that any existing party or group has what it takes to lead the working-class today; and so it is my belief that we should all instead be working at creating a socialist *United Front*, whatever our beliefs. However, I'm talking about a _revolutionary_ socialist United Front -- which would by definition exclude all groups which do not believe in either socialism vs. capitalism, or in the revolution necessary to achieve this. The rest,
however, is negotiable.

I respect Cynthia McKinney, but I do have some minor personal concerns, none of which are 'race or gender based'. I do have a bit more of a preference for Stewart Alexander over Brian Moore. But that is the ticket that the party chose to run. Both are fine men and exemplary activists.

Looking at this dialectically (as should be a basic fundamental of life), McKinney has her pluses and minuses. I don't really support her that much politically, but mostly only on account of her deep and abiding reformist approach. However, I very much do respect that she is on a learning curve, and fighting the Good Fight all the way -- as is Hugo Chávez, for that matter (as should we all be). The question, however, is: will she stop and go no further? And that seems to be in the affirmative, AFAI can see.

However IMO, a successful mass revolutionary party would have a profound effect on essentially radical liberals like McKinney -- who might just make the jump to marxist revolutionism. But then she'd only be arriving where many of us have already long been at. But then again: the process of self-discovery is itself an important factor in building the mass struggle.

I am asking you because you have far more experience and knowledge of Marxist thought and activism than I. In fact, I have only been an SP (and CP) member for a few months. And I am still trying to understand the disconnect with those two party's.

The CPUSA is still stuck far up the Democrat's butts, aren't they? That sez it all for the stalinists. WTF have they learned from the demise of the CCCP? Sweet fuck all, in fact. And it's pretty much the same all over the world. I can't even stand reading their Internet copy. Lose them, is my advice. I did. They still think they are carrying Lenin's torch -- and they manifestly are NOT. They've long been de facto in the trashbin of History where they belong.

And frankly, I don't trust 'Greens'. They seem to me to be marginally environmentally aware bourgeoisie (if I have used the term correctly).

You said it. Another deadend -- and petit-bourgeois tools of the Democratic Party (but then -- so are the CPUSA and [AFAIK] SPUSA. Remember who split from who [in 1921?] and why. ;)

I am simply asking if you would care to take a moment to school me a bit. I won't pester you with this sort of thing in the future frequently. I just want to learn and I respect your knowledge, experience, and activism. So, who better to ask?

Hey Alan -- this is *definitely* better than all the abuse I get. ;P

- -- grok.

"...so it is my belief that we should all instead be working at
creating a socialist *United Front*, whatever our beliefs."

Sign me up!

AFAIC grok, you are a sage. Thank you.

And for anyone out there that reads this, the only source that I could find regarding grok's referral to, "petit-bourgeois tools of the Democratic Party (but then -- so are the CPUSA and [AFAIK] SPUSA. Remember who split from who [in 1921?] and why. ;)" is at Wikapedia, under "Communist Party USA".

And the description there seems... well, unclear as to exactly who screwed who. Any clarifications would be greatly appreciated. Knowledge is power, as they say.

Nazi Mark Levin to MSNBC: "Fire His Ass!"

Oh, my god! Wanna see and hear a ultra-conservative rant? Watch this... if you can stomach it. This little Nazi simply rants for nine minutes and doesn't state one simple fact. All he does is rage on Keith Olbermann and anyone who shares the views that he espouses.

I personally do not care for MSNBC. (It's mainly the MS part... and the NBC part). But I haven't heard Olbermann say one thing that isn't absolutely true! I'm not going to try to defend him on anything except the few comments that I have heard from him regarding the Bush Administration and their monumental failure. And he has been right on the mark in everything that I have heard him say.

I don't give a $h!t if it's Charles Manson speaking, if it is the truth.

Bush's Iran diplomacy is a sham; admits US Defence Secretary

Are Georgie's buddies jumping ship? Who will throw him under the bus next? Metaphors aside, and more importantly, when will he and his minions be arrested and tried in a world court?

Bush's Iran diplomacy is a sham; admits US Defence Secretary | CASMII Press Release
Bush's Iran diplomacy is a sham; admits US Defence Secretary

In a moment of candour, Robert Gates, the US Defence Secretary has admitted albeit implicitly that the Bush administration's diplomacy towards Iran has long been a sham: "If there is going to be a discussion, then they need something, too. We can't go to a discussion and be completely the demander, with them not feeling that they need anything from us," he stated in his address to a group of retired American diplomats on May 14.

Lamenting also that the US may have squandered an opportunity to engage with Iran under President Khatami's government, Gates' striking assertion echoes the confession of several European diplomats to Asia Times Online on 7th September 2005. For the first time, they admitted that the package offered by the EU-3 in their so-called negotiations with Iran over its nuclear programme was "an empty box of chocolate" and that "there is nothing else we can offer." The diplomats went on to say: "The Americans simply wouldn't let us."

In 2004, Gates co-authored the Council of Foreign Relations' report "Iran: Time for a New Approach," which rejected that Iran is on the verge of another revolution and called for the United States to reassess its long-standing policy of non-engagement with the current Iranian government. He was later a member of the Iraq study Group, the US Congress' bipartisan panel, whose report in December 2006 strongly recommended direct dialogue with Iran.

The tacit but honest admission of the insincere nature of the US stance on Iran in Gates' speech on Wednesday was once again confirmed on the same day by the US response to the Russian Foreign Minister's statement on how to tackle effectively the conflicts in the Middle East. Sergei Lavrov called on international powers to offer security guarantees for Iran in order to help resolve all problems in the region and the crisis over Iran's nuclear programme.

The White House immediately rejected this call. Spokesman Gordon Johndroe simply retorted: "Security guarantees are not something we are looking at the moment," exposing yet one more time the administration's unwillingness to change its failing agenda for regime change and instead pursue a sincere path for peace.

President Bush's highly inflammatory, threatening and hypocritical rhetoric against Iran in his address to the Israeli Knesset on May 16 provides the strongest evidence yet for his real objective. By making a comparison with the Nazi Germany and warning against appeasement, his speech was designed to destroy peace efforts and justify military action against Iran.

Ironically termed "diplomacy", the US instigated sanctions against Iran are part of a plan to frustrate meaningful negotiations in order to portray violent aggression as a viable alternative to the public.

The Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Intervention in Iran (CASMII) calls on the European Union, Russia and China to resist the Bush Administration's war drive through the United Nations Security Council.

CASMII echoes the appeals of the international community and leading experts in demanding immediate and unconditional US negotiations with Iran.

Everywhere I look on the web of late are people outraged over the conduct of George W. Bush. They are even Bush Bashing over at Capitol Hill Blue! Don't get me wrong, it's about f-ing time that Uhmericuns woke up. But they ran me off back in '03 for calling out his acts of terrorism at CHB.

And that is when I began to realize that Democlicans and Republicrats were one in the same animal. One side just pretends to have a little more conscience than the other.

But that little personal beef aside, what galls me is that all it took to REALLY PISS EVERYONE OFF was for the Chimp in Charge to go global with his... murder? Nah. He insulted the Democlicans by calling them terrorist sympathizers (read appeaser). Uh, didn't he already call anyone who disagrees with him 'a terrorist'?

Dumb fucks.

And now, with everyone across the frigging planet calling him everything under the sun (and doing it quite eloquently, I might add), I wonder if I am going to run out of something to bitch about.

As if...

The name of this blog is "Surviving Christianity". And there is little doubt in my mind that these superstitious bigots that surround me are going to give me years of entertainment... and survival training.

Now that everyone seems to be coming to their senses, if for only a brief moment in time, do you honestly think that everything is going to be just fine come January 2009? If you do, then you will be the asshole that I start writing about next.

Do you have any idea what makes 'terrorists'? It takes years of abuse, treachery, double dealing, short changing, cheating, lying and thievery. And who is best at these things? The Biggest Liar of all time: Organized, Fundamentalist Religion, of any flavor.

So, go on with your bad selves. Frolic in your new found wisdom and bravery. Be proud of yourselves for calling a criminal a criminal AFTER SEVEN LONG YEARS of destroying everything that generations of Americans have fought so hard to develop and preserve. Like the Bill of Rights, for instance, that has been stripped to the core and has little meaning any more, UNDER LAW!

Thanks for the memories. But we are not done yet. It isn't over. Not by a long shot.

"Our men and women in uniform have stepped up to the plate for the good of our country," Becerra said. "It is time we step up to the plate for the good of our veterans."

All I can say is that the VA doesn't provide the services that they are currently obligated by law and legal contract to provide and spend most of their time and energy trying to find new ways to deny benefits. Without addressing this, anything else is pointless.

We are better off dead... and they are better off WITH us dead.

Thanx 4 nuttin'.

Bush An "Appeaser," Says Egyptian Press

So, now 'the decider' who accused others of being 'appeasers' has fallen victim of his own words... again. Is anyone else sick of this sycophant dominating the global media as a representation of the rest of US? He makes US thinking folk look bad.

Bush An "Appeaser," Says Egyptian Press, Critics Raise Questions About Credibility Of U.S. Role In Middle East - CBS News
Egypt's state-owned press opened fire Saturday on U.S. President George W. Bush as he arrived for talks with regional leaders at the conclusion of a five-day Mideast tour.

The newspapers, whose management are all appointed by the government, criticized Mr. Bush's speech Thursday in front of the Israeli Knesset for being overly supportive of the Israelis and not mentioning the Palestinians' plight.

"The Torah-inspired speech of Bush raised question marks over the credibility of the U.S. role in the Middle East," wrote Mursi Atallah, the publisher of Al-Ahram, the flagship daily of the state-owned press. "Bush aims to do nothing but appeasing Israel."

So, the state owned media of the country who is considered the primary peace broker of the Middle East questions the 'credibility' of one of the biggest liars that US Politics has ever known as the Egyptian government itself maintains its diplomatic dignity. Is the a lesson there for anyone, George?...

A front page editorial in Al-Gomhouria, another Egyptian state-owned daily, described Mr. Bush as "a failed president who delivers nothing but a lousy speech."

Akhbar Al-Youm also on Saturday published a picture of Mr. Bush hugging Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and captioned it "lovers."

The paper also ran a front page cartoon showing an Egyptian peasant consoling President Hosni Mubarak for having to meet with "this burdensome guy who will be leaving soon," in reference to Mr. Bush.

Looks like a duck, walks like a duck... And he isn't leaving soon enough!

On Friday, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal commented on Mr. Bush's speech by saying its understandable that U.S.-Israel relations are special but "it is, however, important also to affirm the legitimate and political rights of the Palestinian people."

Diplomatic finesse read 'Bush is a tool'.

When you see others’ errors and you want to guide them because you think they are wrong and you feel compassion for them, you should employ tact to avoid angering them, and contrive to appear as if you were talking about something else.

-Tact, Dogen
...

Mr. Bush is seen in the Arab world as somebody who tilts heavily toward Israel. And that was pretty apparent yesterday when he was in Saudi Arabia asking, among other things, for the Saudis to pump more oil in the hopes that that might help bring down gas prices in the U.S.

The Saudis gave him a polite but firm "No."

Plante said the White House tried to spin that by saying, "Well, look, it is really not a problem of oil from the Saudis or anywhere else, it is the problem of refining capacity and high prices driven by speculation" - all which may be true, but the White House has to admit as it does regularly there is no short-term solution to the problem of high gas prices.

When, oh when, will this imbecile and his minions sit down and shut up?

He is like an addict being cut off by his dealer!

I can see him in the defendants box in the World Court now. If we thought that Saddam represented his self as a caricature, I can hardly wait to see this idiot! Should be fun.

When Bad Things Turn Good

I talk a lot about bad stuff that needs to be fixed. Some would say that all I do is bitch. That's not too far from true. But I TRY to do what I can when I can, if it's nothing more than letters to my legislators. (And I am quite sure that they are tired of hearing from me, but as Big Dick said, "So?")

I posted an article about the Abortion Restriction Act of 2008 several days ago. I sent letters of my disapproval of this horrible piece of legislation along with (apparently) many others. And today I received this e-mail:

Dear Heartland Heretic,

You've reached out to Governor Matt Blunt and the anti-choice extremists in Jefferson City. You have signed petitions, organized, tabled, and gone to Jefferson City to lobby legislators - you have done critically important work in protecting women's health. Today, your work paid off. You helped to defeat the Abortion Restriction Act of 2008!

Every year for the past 5 years, the Missouri Legislature has passed restrictive bills or eliminated programs that could have reduced the need for abortion services through family planning and sex education. This year, you defeated their sixth attempt.

Not only did you fight and win against the Abortion Restriction bill of 2008, but you also laid to rest this year's effort by David Reardon to put a dangerous, anti-choice ballot initiative on the ballot in November!

On behalf of the thousands of Missouri women, men, and teens who rely on Planned Parenthood's services, thank you! Soon, we will update you on where your legislators stood on reproductive rights this session, but for now, rest assured that your work has paid off.

Thank you for continuing to stand up for choice!

Sincerely,
The Planned Parenthood team
(Alison, Angie, Crystal, Dylan, Kellie, Kristen, Lauren, Lisa, M'Evie, Michelle, Sheila, Victoria)

So, what I am trying to say here is that someone is actually listening to common sense proffered by their constituents. 'The People' might still have a voice. We may still be able to turn the nation around 'to do the right thing' for all of us.

It is a small victory. But we take what we can get... and we just keep pushing.

It feels good to be able to report something good. I'd like to do it more often! And we did it together.

In Solidarity,
The Heartland Heretic

Those Amazing Miraculous Computers!

In order to give validity to this "evidence," the Colombian authorities asked Interpol to produce a report certifying the "authenticity" of the archives contained in the equipment. Yesterday, March 15, the report was made public <http://www.interpol .int/

Interpol says that:

"The operating systems of the three seized laptops all showed that the laptops had been shut down on 3 March 2008 (at different times, but all three prior to 11:45 a.m., the time of receipt by the forensic computer examiners of the Colombian Judicial Police). The two external hard disks and the three USB thumb drives had all been connected to a computer between 1 and 3 March 2008, without prior imagine of their contents and without the use of write-blocking hardware."

That is, the Colombian Army used and modified the archives contained in the computers, USB memory and hard disks, before delivering them to the Colombian police.

For example, on page 31, the report says:

"83. Seized exhibit 26, a laptop computer, showed the following effects on files on or after 1 March 2008:

- 273 system files were created

- 373 system and user files were accessed

- 786 system files were modified

- 488 system files were deleted

The report says that user documents (Word and the like) are authentic, because they were not modified between March 1 and the date of the examination, however, the same report acknowledges the limits of this statement because in Exhibit 31, there are:

- 2,110 files with creation dates ranging between 20 April 2009 to 27 August 2009

- 1,434 files which show as having been last modified between 5 April 2009 and 16 October 2010

It concludes that "these files were originally created prior to 1 March 2008 on a device or devices with incorrect system time settings. (Page 33)

What this means is that any user changing the time on the operating system can create a document with any date they please, either a prior or even a future one.

And who didn't already know this? I mean, it is crystal clear (to me, at least) that if the capitalist pig's lips are moving, they are lying. That is what they do. That is all that they know. And everyone else is just in a delusional world if they choose to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Mr. President: We offer you our most sincere apology

Earlier this week, he lamented to a reporter about the reason he had given up golf in 2003:

"I don't want some mom whose son may have recently died to see the commander in chief playing golf," the president said Tuesday. "I feel I owe it to the families to be in solidarity as best as I can with them. And I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal."

Gee, Mr. President: on behalf of every American who thought you hadn't sacrificed enough while our brave troops defend our country every day, we offer you our most sincere apology.

Sincerely,

U.S.-trained forces reportedly helping Mexican cartels

Amerika's War 'OF' Terror... on all of mankind.

U.S.-trained forces reportedly helping Mexican cartels | Thought Criminal
As many as 200 U.S.-trained Mexican security personnel have defected to drug cartels to carry out killings on both sides of the border and as far north as Dallas, Rep. Ted Poe, R-Humble, told Congress on Wednesday.

The renegade members of Mexico's elite counter-narcotics teams trained at Fort Benning, Ga., have switched sides, contributing to a wave of violence that has claimed some 6,000 victims over the past 30 months, including prominent law enforcement leaders, the Houston-area Republican told the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Lemme see... Didn't US train and arm Sadam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, and... Israel, among others?

So, the question begs, who exactly has made our world so hazardous to those of us who are just trying to survive (and that would be most of humanity)? Who is financing and protecting the Cocaine State of Columbia? Who enabled the poppy boom in Afghanistan?

That would be US.

Again, proud to be Uhmericun.

So, Someone Grew Cajones and Called a Spade a Spade

AND IT'S CNN THAT IS REPORTING IT! I've got to digest this for a while...
Dems fire back at Bush on 'appeasement' - CNN.com
JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Democrats on Thursday condemned President Bush's insinuation that they would be appeasing terrorist states by holding talks, with one going so far as to call his remarks "bulls**t."

President Bush called the idea of negotiating with terrorists a "foolish delusion."

Joe Biden, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that if the president disagrees so strongly with the idea of talking to Iran, then he needs to fire his secretaries of state and defense, both of whom Biden said have pushed to sit down with the Iranians.

"This is bulls**t. This is malarkey. This is outrageous. Outrageous for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country, sit in the Knesset ... and make this kind of ridiculous statement," he said...

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called on Bush to "explain the inconsistency between his administration's actions and his words today."

"Not surprisingly, the engineer of the worst foreign policy in our nation's history has fired yet another reckless and reprehensible round," he said in a statement...

"It is sad that President Bush would use a speech to the Knesset on the 60th anniversary of Israel's independence to launch a false political attack," Obama said in a statement released to CNN by his campaign.

"George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists, and the president's extraordinary politicization of foreign policy and the politics of fear do nothing to secure the American people or our stalwart ally Israel," Obama's statement said. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who leaves later Thursday on a bipartisan congressional trip to Israel, said there is a "protocol" of not criticizing the president when he is abroad but then declared, "I think what the president did in that regard is beneath the dignity of the office of president and unworthy of our representation at that observance in Israel."

She and Howard Dean, the Democratic Party chairman, called on McCain to denounce the comment.

McCain declined to do so Thursday, instead criticizing Obama's willingness to talk to the president of Iran.

"It is a serious error on the part of Sen. Obama that shows naiveté and inexperience and lack of judgment to say that he wants to sit down across the table from an individual who leads a country who says that Israel is a stinking corpse," McCain said.

And apparently the outrage has nothing to do with the millions dead and trillions spent. He insulted the Democlican Party! How dare he! Each day he goes untried for war crimes is an insult to humanity! Perhaps the ball is beginning to roll. Might one hope?

At least someone in D.C. (Dick City) is finally publicly denouncing the murderous son of a bitch. I guess I'll call it 'progressive'.

The Bush Legacy Tour

Should be a good show! I'm looking forward to it.

Americans United for Change is taking our show on the road.

This summer we're launching the Bush Legacy Bus, a traveling museum to remind Americans just how devastating the president's conservative agenda has been for our country.

That's right -- we bought a bus, put Bush's face all over it, and are filling it with all of President Bush's failures. And we may be bringing it to your town soon.

This election cycle, while other groups have their eyes set on John McCain, we're keeping our eyes on President Bush... and the folks who made his failures possible.

President Bush's friends voted to keep funding the war. They voted for his tax cuts for oil companies and wealthy corporations. They voted to uphold his veto of children's health insurance.

By keeping the focus on President Bush, we're keeping the focus on the failures of eight years of conservative policies. We aren't going to let President Bush's friends distance themselves this year from his failed policies.

Just last week, Bush's chief strategist, Karl Rove, told the Washington Post:

I'm absolutely positive history will be kind to this president, who made the right decisions in a difficult time for this nation.

We cannot let President Bush and Karl Rove's version of the past eight years go down in history as the truth.

We hope to see you on the bus soon!
